Indian Head Massage

Featuring in Ayurvedic texts going back some 4000 years, massage has always played an important part in Indian life. Continuing today, infants in India receive daily massage until about 3 years old. From then until primary years, about 6 years old, they continue to receive a massage once or twice a week. What’s fascinating after that is that they then learn how to massage other family members. It’s a real family bonding and something here in the UK we’re unaccustomed to, but which we could quite frankly benefit from hugely. There are now classes taught in schools, albeit a scattered occurrence, showing children how they can give each other a massage. Done fully clothed Indian Head Massage is quite simply the most versatile therapy and is often seen in barber shops in India. We get a little head rub from our hairdressers here but not to the same extent sadly. Here at Serenity we use essential oils and do the massage whilst the client wears a towel wrap. Adding to the fabulously invigorating and yet at the same time relaxing head massage it means we can get into those tenseeareas of the upper back and shoulders with ease leaving you feeling totally chilled out. It’s the most relaxed you can be in a chair.
